NEW TREND IN SUPERNATURAL ENTERTAINMENT
BEATS REALITY TV
NEW BOOKS FOLLOW TREND IN “SUPERNATURAL” ENTERTAINMENT
Calgary, AB September 22, 2005 – The Da
Vinci Code is only the latest example of a trend in “supernatural”
entertainment taking hold of books, television and film. You only have to
look at this fall’s film and TV lineup to see examples as “The Exorcism of
Emily Rose” hits the big screen while “The Night Stalker” (ABC) and “Ghost
Whisperer” (CBS) hit primetime.
Has the pendulum swung
away from legal thrillers and reality TV? The fantastic response audiences
have given to scary movies like “The Ring” and books like the Da Vinci
Code show there may be room for mixing thrills, mystery and the
supernatural.
Calgary author Jim
Slobodzian, launching his debut gothic thriller, RAMIEL, Angel in Ruins
says that perhaps the mass audience is looking for something new amid the
doctor, lawyer and reality stories we’ve seen the past few years. “It’s an
exciting new trend and I can only guess it may have been triggered by the
introspection of 9/11. How do you feel when you are faced with the
unknown? We may all feel a little scared, but people are adventurers and
we are drawn to discover the unknown. It’s that thrill of going forward.”
The success of the Da
Vinci Code is being followed by books such as THE RULE OF FOUR, locally
published THE MADONNA LIST, and the newly released RAMIEL, a new gothic
thriller by Calgary author Jim Slobodzian.
RAMIEL is an
entertaining and fast-moving story following the archangel Ramiel on the
road to ruin and redemption in the ruins of the haunted St. Norbert
Monastery. What happens when a person’s ordinary life becomes entangled in
the games played between angels and demons?
“RAMIEL is an
entertaining story that is filled with exciting twists and reversals – it
will keep you on the edge of your chair, but I’ve sprinkled enough humour
in it so we can all get a good night sleep.”
RAMIEL
is available at McNally Robinson Booksellers (Calgary), Amazon.com and
other retailers.
